Star Bottom.
When I was just a little lad
I thought the world was mine and dads
But soon things changed from good to bad
things went wrong for mom and dad.

We moved to Star Bottom one sunny day
trouble soon would come our way.
My dad left home and went away
there was nothing else for us to say.

There was no road out or no road back
just a swinging bridge and a railroad track.
life went on but not the same
mom and dad both shared the blame.

The train went by from time to time
blowing its whistle down the line.
it carried coal on down the track
I thought it might bring my dad back.

My older brothers left when they were boys
here at home there was no joy.
The swinging bridge crossed beaver creek
it was hard to cross with my small feet.

Little brother,sister and me
stayed with mom and could not see
beyond the bridge and railroad track
those who left did not come back.
