Hard Times In Blaine..
I was just a little boy
and I barely do remember,
I don't know for sure if it was June,
July, August, or September.

Our food supply was running low
it was a long way to the store,
We had no truck or car to drive
to complicate things more.

My uncle Ed had a tractor though
I'm not sure what kind,
But with a set of disc's covered with boards
they left us kids behind.

Mom and Dad and Goldie
sat upon the wood
Ed drove the tractor
and things started out real good.

Now I didn't see it happen
but the results were plain to see
They got caught in a hail storm
it was told to me.

On the road to Blaine they were
no shelter there for flight
sitting on that old tractor
they must have been a sight.

I couldn't guess what words were said
by Mom and Dad and Goldie and Ed.
but it had to be real funny there
as the hail fell on their uncovered hair.

The bumps and knots
were on their head
But Dad and Ed
did not break red.

It's now another entry
in life's book of memories
of things we remember
of happenings and used to be's.

Yes I was young when it happened
My memory might not be exact
I don't want to tell you anything
that I can't take back.

Times were hard in Blaine I heard
But I don't know for sure
I thought we were rich back then
Life seemed so good and pure.
